Just for fun I recently asked Erin, “Now that the kids are in summer school, don’t you think it’s about time you went out and got yourself a job? I hate seeing you wallow in unemployment for so long.”
She smiled and said, “Wow. I have been unemployed a really long time. That’s weird… I like it!”
Neither of us have had jobs since the ’90s (my only job was in 1992), so we’ve been self-employed for quite a while. In our household it’s a running joke for one of us to say to the other, “Maybe you should get a job, derelict!”
It’s like the scene in The Three Stooges where Moe tells Curly to get a job, and Curly backs away, saying, “No, please… not that! Anything but that!”
It’s funny that when people reach a certain age, such as after graduating college, they assume it’s time to go out and get a job. But like many things the masses do, just because everyone does it doesn’t mean it’s a good idea. In fact, if you’re reasonably intelligent, getting a job is one of the worst things you can do to support yourself. There are far better ways to make a living than selling yourself into indentured servitude.
Here are some reasons you should do everything in your power to avoid getting a job:
Happy Fool’s Day!
Maybe you don’t know this year March 14th is regarded as the 10th year after dot com bubble. Moreover, today is the 10 anniversary since I got the first PC in my life. This is not a joke. In the past decade, playing computer is my biggest hobby, and in the coming decades it will be my job. It sounds great, doesn’t it?
On January 12, we announced on this blog that Google and more than twenty other U.S. companies had been the victims of a sophisticated cyber attack originating from China, and that during our investigation into these attacks we had uncovered evidence to suggest that the Gmail accounts of dozens of human rights activists connected with China were being routinely accessed by third parties, most likely via phishing scams or malware placed on their computers. We also made clear that these attacks and the surveillance they uncovered—combined with attempts over the last year to further limit free speech on the web in China including the persistent blocking of websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google Docs and Blogger—had led us to conclude that we could no longer continue censoring our results on Google.cn.
Last week, “The Hurt Locker” won the Academy Award for best picture, beat ”Avatar“, the highest-grossing movie. It wasn’t surprising me, but I still prefer “Avatar”. Despite some people argued that “Avatar” is just a sci-fi blockbuster like “Transformers” or “G.I. Joe” after the ceremony, I insist this movie is perfect, not only its 3-D visual effects or IMAX screen but also the imagination and humanity of the story. ”Everything is backwards now, like out there is the true world, and in here is the dream”, Jake Sully said in the movie.
In addition, maybe Chinese audience have got bored with the story of demolition.
Today is the Spring Festival and Valentine’s Day. What a coincidence! However, I can only feel the stress instead of happiness. Last year was so dramatic that a lot of stuff happened to me. Some good some bad, as the saying goes “When a door closes, a window will open somewhere”. Perhaps it’s just another coincidence.

Hi guys, it’s me again. Actually, launch a new blog is not I want.
Last fall, I moved my blog to yo2, another blog space also powered by WordPress. It’s really fascinating that most of the functions can be customized and no ads embedded in my pages. However, I cannot login at home these days, nor in my office. According to the announcement by yo2, “the Agency” is inspecting their web server and there’s no expiry date. Despite the blog server has been moved to Hong Kong, though, the great Great Fire Wall still blocking it. Consequently, all users have to jump over the wall to visit their sites and backup their works.
Anyway, welcome to Chaos!
